Job Search - How to Use Your Resume to Hasten Interview Invitation

Do you suffer from unproductive job search? Has your job hunting been ineffective and consequently ineffective? Those of us in the recruitment and selection profession have long realized that job seeking is a process and it should be treated as such. Most job hunters do not realize this and therefore have continued to search unsuccessfully for their dream job. Job hunting is supposed to assist you in identifying an ideal job. It however does not stop at that. You have to match your skills, abilities, experience and accomplishments with the ideal job and be invited for an interview to verify your claims to make the search complete. That is where the resume comes in. Without the CV, the hiring manager will never know the skills, abilities, experience and accomplishments you possess. Without it the recruiter will never know that your attributes matches the requirements of the job on offer and therefore fit for selection for interview. Our objective here in this article is to highlight the process of using the curriculum vitae to lessen the period of job hunting by fast tracking interview invitation.

Mike and Derek were course mates. They both studied mechanical engineering and graduated at the same time. After graduation job searching was next. While Mike had the privilege of being the son of a HR Manager in a high brow organization, Derek did not. Mike's father was able to educate his son on the process of shortening his job search and consequently fast tracking his employ-ability. He told the son the essence of the resume and the benefits of crafting one that is attention grabbing to the hiring manager. Mike consequently learned art of crafting a professional CV that could not be ignored by any recruiter. While Mike was able to know that different curriculum vitae should be written for each job on offer, Derek who was not so privileged with such information wrote only one which is generic and he usually forward for different jobs on offer. While Mike was able to know the relevant information the CV should contain, Derek did not. While Mike was able to identify from start the mistakes a job seeker could make when writing his resume Derek did not. Of course when it came to being invited for interviews which is crucial in the process of job search, Mike was almost always successful while Derek was not. Therefore Mike was always successful in his job search.

What are those steps Mike took to be so successful? What therefore are those steps you as a job hunter need to take in the process of job search to make invitation for interview faster and easier so that employment which is the ultimate goal of job hunting will be realized. As an experienced recruiter versed in the area of sourcing talents the following steps need to be taken:

1. Personal assessment/audit:Megan Pittsley it was who said "If you can't communicate and prove your value, no one will see your value." The key to a successful job search therefore is being able to identify what makes you the job hunter unique from the crowd and being able to communicate these to a potential employer. If you cannot therefore communicate to the recruiter why you are the best for a job on offer, how do you get employed for the job? You therefore need to communicate both verbally and in writing to the employer why you are the best for the job on offer. The first step will therefore be through personal awareness which is done through assessment and audit of self. You will need to identify your interests, passions, skills, goals, values, objectives, experiences and accomplishments and communicate these to the potential employer.

2. Identification of matching job offer: The next step in the process of job search is the identification of matching job offers and uncovering of opportunities. If you qualified as an Accountant, you will not apply for a job as HR personnel since you do not have the knowledge. You will only apply for vacancies that fit your qualification and knowledge. You should only look for jobs that matches you passion, interests, skills, experience, values, goals and accomplishments. One effective way of identifying opportunities is through the use of search engines to locate job openings. Such online tools include use of LinkedIn.com, VisualCV.com, Plaxo.com, Jobster.com, Myworkster.com, Jobfox.com, Jobberman.com etc. Another way of uncovering opportunities is through networking with fellow professionals and friends. Through these people one will get to learn about opportunities when they are available. Job seekers also need to horn their relationships with Alumni associations and also should endeavor to attend their professional association meetings. Opportunities are often discussed at such places and it is only those that attend that get to learn about them. Opportunities could also be through newspaper adverts.

3. Crafting of a customized and fitting resume: Once you have been able to identify your marketable skills and attributes, the next step in the quest for an effective job search is the writing of professional resume or CV. One that is attention grabbing and the hiring manager will find difficult to ignore. You see, your curriculum vitae are your advert copy. It is supposed to market you the job hunter to a potential employer so that he will be able to pick you out of the crowd and identify you as the most suitable for the job on offer. To be effective it must be customized for each job on offer. To be effective the information must be relevant. To be effective it must be properly structured and concise. To be effective, the words and phrases used must be catchy. To be effective the information therein must be reliable. You should therefore endeavor to customize the CV you will distribute and not use a generic one. After crafting your attention grabbing resume, you need to submit to prospective employers to actually realize the purpose for which it was crafted which is invitation for interview. You should submit to the opportunities so identified earlier to make your job hunt complete. This will however be accompanied with the relevant cover letter.

4. Follow Up: Submission of resume alone does not however signify that you will be invited for an interview. You will still do a follow up on the CV you have submitted and will have to be creative about this. You need to know how well your resume is doing. Do so subtly. Also all those who might have offered assistance to you in your job hunt needs to be appreciated. You will have to send thank you letters to them and also endeavor to keep them abreast of your progress. Further, never expect that you will be the only one gunning for the job on offer. Therefore, you should expect competition from other job seekers. You should endeavor to impress prospective employers during all appointments with your dressing and communication skills.

From the foregoing, it is evident that job hunting is serious business. It is a business that might affect your life. Crafting an appealing resume which the hiring manager cannot ignore and will consequently convince him to invite you for an interview can therefore not be over emphasized. Writing and submitting an attention grabbing CV relevant to a job on offer will definitely enhance and hasten your invitation for an interview, Further, your appealing CV which is also your advert copy increases your marketability because it focuses on results rather than responsibilities. Crafting and submitting appealing curriculum vitae to hiring managers is also known to increase job seeking effectiveness by ensuring that there is compatibility with potential employer's tracking system. Finally, crafting an attention grabbing resume improves personal confidence and interview preparedness by helping to reveal those attributes and accomplishments you might have forgotten to communicate more forcefully in the course of interview.

Want to learn more about how to craft an attention grabbing resume which the hiring manager cannot ignore and which will hasten your invitation for interview? Then writing and submitting a professional resume to hiring managers is the key.

The Global HR Recruitment Marketplace

A great asset for any HR professional is to be multilingual and have international HR experience; these capabilities are in demand. But when it comes to recruitment, hiring trends can differ greatly by region. We explore the current global recruitment marketplace and discuss what HR skills are needed in each area.

Middle East

There is fast-paced growth in the Middle East because of the investment in infrastructure from the government and multinational organisations taking advantage of growth opportunities in the developing market.

When it comes to human resources, there is a strange combination of admin-focused HR departments and modern HR teams who are much more strategic. While commercial focus is an increasing priority for many companies, resulting in a growing need for HR business partner expatriates, the biggest challenge for the Middle East is to educate developing businesses about the importance of a commercial and business focus for HR.

Asia Pacific

In Hong Kong, strategic-level HR is in demand, as are talent and employee development professionals because employee retention is a key focus for many companies. China is expected to have an onslaught of new HR roles since functions are being centralised in head offices. There is also an emphasis on hiring and retaining talent as a means to grow business. New roles in Japan will be to fulfil immediate business needs.

Singapore

Singapore's HR revolution is being led by the healthcare, telecommunication, and pharmaceutical industries. There is a focused effort to move functions in-house in the name of cost efficiency, and staff retention is becoming a significant issue; because of this, sectors are seeing an insurgence of HR expats.

Australia

Having just reached a seven-year peak in the industrial sector, there's a market shortage in industrial relations and retention. Companies have been forced into competition because the pool of professionals is limited.

Europe

With the overshadowing Euro problems, it's no surprise that the European recruitment market is mixed. France is currently avoiding risk since it is expecting taxation changes later on this year, while Germany is investing in upgrading the skills of HR departments (mostly business partners) and recruiting new employees. Netherlands and Belgium are developing their business in the Far East and Middle East. Spain, Greece, Italy, and Portugal have been inactive in the recruitment market and are expected to stay this way for the moment.

UK

Replacement roles make up the most permanent hires, and there's been a lot of recruitment for mid-level positions on the interim market for fixed-term contracts in human resources.

The industry is shifting attention to e-commerce due to increased consumer use of online services. As a result of the commerce sector's actions to minimise operations costs, IT services and outsourcing continue to grow.

A period of 6-month unemployment in HR is rare since the market is mature and experienced practitioners are consistently sought-after. The focus on finding the ideal HR candidate has resulted in a longer recruitment process since some specific skills are hard to come by; in the financial sector, there's an overall skills shortage for the available jobs in HR. Companies are holding out to find the perfect person and want candidates who can tick all of the boxes.

What HR skills are in demand?

Singapore:

Cost efficiency is the focus in this area. Each role has to be worth its weight, which has led to an increase of generalist business partners and in-house roles being created.

It's likely that benefits specialists and business partners will be in demand for the rest of the year. Permanent positions may be hard to come by, which could be good news for HR contractors.

Hong Kong:

At the moment, companies in Hong Kong are looking to recruit at senior level for presidents and directors while keeping their eyes open for HR professionals with strategic business skills.

Remuneration packages and benefits policies are a big focus, so there's a demand for compensation and benefits specialists. Those with global experience are sought-after too, since employers are creating restructuring packages to attract employees to Hong Kong, or for internal talent so they can explore different options abroad.

Middle East:

The Middle East HR market is thinking about business on a global scale, so many companies are looking for people who can create up-to-date HR departments that have commercial and strategic value.

While mid-level business partners are always sought-after, there's also been a demand for local HR professionals due to nationalisation targets.

In the past 5 years, the focus has been on recruiting outside the area (bringing in expats) in order to raise the bar of HR, and make the function a driver of business. While there's opportunity for those who don't speak Arabic, those who want success should be specialists with expertise in their area.

Australia:

The HR focus in Australia is in the public sector because Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) legislation is changing and standardising around the country. This requires HR consultants, advisors, managers and case managers. New financial budgets will create opportunities for change managers as well; projects that were once postponed are now back on.

UK:

The hiring strategy for many companies in the UK is to get the highest return on investment (ROI) for their budget because of the constant gloomy news from the financial district. Because of this, the HR recruitment market is thriving. lLearning and development talent is in demand, which shows us that companies recognise the importance of investing in their staff. HR generalists with a strong background in risk management/commercial roles are also desired.

There's been a need for people to address business issues, and because of this, companies are looking to hire experts in organisational development, remuneration & benefits.

Head Hunters - Why You Need Them

Placement services are very much in practice today. Many big and large organizations are using placement services globally. The popularity of the trend can be estimated from the fact that many placement services have spread their operations globally with offices at all the prime locations. One might think why an organization should use services of a recruitment agency when it can hire the required personnel at its own level. Yes they can but it is not always so easy, effective and affordable. Recruiting right employees at the right time is a very technical and costly affair. If organizations fail to recruit the right candidate at the right time, they might have to incur heavy cost in terms of loss in production, promotion and customer satisfaction. The professional recruitment services provide an easy, effective and affordable solution at much lower cost. Given below are some of the benefits of using a placement service:

Cost Effective: It is true that organizations should first try to fulfill emerging vacancies internally. But it is not always possible. Publishing advertisement in news papers, conducting interviews and short listing candidates is a costly affair requiring special resources and manpower to execute. Besides, if managers are not very good in selecting right candidates, they might end up selecting a wrong person for the position. This wrong decision will add to the cost, mismanagement, and inefficiency in the organization. But, if organization hires an external agency for the purpose, the job becomes easier and affordable. All managers have to do is let the respective agency know about its job requirement and pay structure and the recruiting firm will identify right candidates for the position and make them available for the interview. Some recruitment agencies even offer selection service by interviewing and examining candidates on behalf of the organization. This way the company can get a good candidate without spending any extra amount on advertising and extra efforts on interviewing/entertaining several candidates for one particular position.

Effective: The recruitment agencies are often run and managed by Humane Resource professionals. They are trained and experienced persons in the art of recruiting right candidates for the job. Therefore it reduces chances of hiring a wrong person and its other side effects. Besides, in case organizations do not find the hired candidate right for the published position, they can ask the agency for a replacement without any extra cost. This makes it very much possible for the organization to recruit right candidate without spending extra cost and efforts.

Easy: recruitment agencies often have a long list of candidates from all the fields. They use software to short out candidates on the basis of their experience, expertise, education and desired emoluments. Therefore they are often in position to provide list of potential candidates for available vacancies. Managers can then select the most suitable ones and invite them for interviews. This all can be achieved just at a fraction of the cost which an organization will have to spend otherwise.

The placement agencies are always found helpful by the job seekers, and a preferred recruitment medium.

Six Unusual Job Titles That Capture Your Attention

Every recruiter knows the importance of job titles. It makes a lot of difference for people when they are an administrative assistant instead of the ordinary secretary or a meteorologist instead of the weatherman. One coaching business even employs an overseer of order, somebody akin to the chief executive officer in other businesses. Most of the time, however, the responsibilities of the job remain the same and recruiters can only do so much to spruce up their job advertisements.

Don't you sometimes wish you could hire for some unusual job openings? The rarity of these jobs and their overwhelming appeal means all the right candidates will flock to the straight to the employers, but hey, a recruiter can dream.

Island Manager

After the smashing success of Queensland's "Best Job in the World" tourism campaign, a host of other island resorts followed suit, each of them unofficially branding their campaign the "Second Best Job in the World". Candidates must be able to fulfill the day-to-day responsibilities of snorkeling, feeding on beachside barbecues and living in a luxurious villa rent-free in exchange for taking care of it and blogging about their experiences. It could be a recruiter's nightmare, though. The Best Job in the World attracted more than 30,000 applications. We can only imagine how many people are aiming for second best.

Futurologist

One business best practice is the willingness to look into the future and plan ahead of the competition. This does not involve astrologers, though, only futurologists. If you are hiring for one, the job description should include advanced knowledge in philosophy and the social sciences and an eye for trends that could last well into the future. The main responsibilities include predicting the future in a scientific and systematic manner.

Luxury Bed Tester

What qualifications would you look for in a candidate if your client asks you to find a luxury bed tester? Perhaps being a light sleeper is one. Being able to describe experiences might be another. Simon Horns Ltd. hired a college student to test all beds displayed in its Edgbaston showroom, requiring her to spend the entire eight-hour workday in bed. It's not only Simon Horns in need of a bed tester, though. A number of high-end luxury hotels have also made openings for bed testers who could provide an objective evaluation of their sleeping experiences. Aren't these "workers" lucky being required to sleep on the job?

Flavor Chemist

A taste for fine dining and the mental proficiency of a scientist are essential requirements for this job. More and more food manufacturing companies are opening their doors for people who can analyze natural food flavors and recreate them using chemicals and laboratory equipment. It's not an easy job and you can thank our flavor chemists for bringing us a thousand flavors of orange, cotton candy milkshakes and processed chicken sandwiches without chicken.

Online Game Tester

This is the ultimate dream job for millions of online gamers around the world. Blizzard Entertainment started the trend when it opened positions under the Quality Control department for testers who could evaluate the experience of playing the latest version of World of Warcraft, their most popular game. Candidates have to come from non-English-speaking countries and are required to play WoW for at least four hours. Bet more candidates are willing to work overtime.

Ethical Hacker

What's the difference between an ethical hacker and, um, an ordinary hacker? They basically do the same thing-use their programming skills to hack into government websites and the online systems of high-profile organizations. The difference is ethical hackers are commissioned to regularly evaluate the cyber-security measures that a company has in place and come up with ways to continuously tighten security. Oh, and, they also need to have a certification issued by the International Council of Electronic Commerce Consultants.

Pointers to Remember Before Planning to Design Logos

How powerful are logos? Well, I must say, "very powerful in the business industry as you can ever imagine." With a simple second glance at one, many ideas run through a viewer's head.

We have seen hundreds of creations. But maybe we can only remember a few of them. In planning your design, there are so many things that you have to consider. It will be a great challenge I know. But for some, thinking of an emblem can be exciting as long as there are others to help you.

Consistency Is Very Important

Before starting one, it is better to understand and study your business first. If you have a coffee shop, will you consider choosing pastry bread or a coffee bean figure? The brand you want to market must be consistent with your logo. To design logos, you must know how the company takes care of its clients.

Deciding on changing your company's emblem after you have been known in the market will be a difficult challenge for you. Try to think of an emblem that you will be sticking to for years or even decades. Create that identifies the company as a reliable shelter for business. In this way, clients will be assured that your company still has the same standards it had before.

An example of this is the product of Procter and Gamble, Mr. Clean. In 1958, it has already been in the market as a widely known cleaning solution. Since then, Mr. Clean has had many changes over the years. Though it has been made of different concepts, colors, and even the look of this-so-called "Mr. Clean", the idea that it is the best cleaning solution is still there.

Make It More A-"Filling"

When a certain symbol has more connection with customers, it will surely be remembered. Understanding who is going to fill-up their needs is important.

When you design logos, make it more appealing to the eyes of your target market. Use a concept that is interesting. Do not forget that every creation needs to have that special and unique component so that clients will never have a hard time identifying them.

Other pointers to remember:

· Color combination is also important to capture every emotion and feeling of your target clients. Know more about these colors by searching the Internet.

· Choose a font style that is not too fancy, unless you are creating a one for a tattoo shop. You need to use powerful and not too artistic font styles. Keep it simple for viewers to see and appreciate it easily.

· Place the elements in an appropriate layout so that clients won't have a hard time looking at it.

Create one that will have a long-lasting effect and one that signifies durable and everlasting service. To design logos, you must remember that it is also a security blanket that protects the clients' interests and investments. Similar with that of a company, people identify it as an emblem that shows reliability and trust. It must represent the image of the company to achieve its goals and objectives.

Darwin Palmer believes that a creative mind can make something out of nothing. He has over 20 years of professional experience in the logo and web design industry.

The job market is tough, and your resume and application are the first time a prospective employer will meet you as a candidate. Your application must include a cover letter. Make sure there are no grammatical errors. Your resume should follow the format specific to your industry. Fill out the application provided by the employer. Fill out all sections, even if you entered the information on your resume, you should also list it on the application. Print all documents and check for errors before submitting.

Now, follow these tips and make the best impression with your resume and application.

1) Match your resume to the job.

Create 2-3 basic resumes and adapt them to fit the position for which you apply.Research sample resumes in your field and follow the same format.

2) Focus on skills.

Use action verbs to start each point. Examples: wrote reports, researched new products, marketed products.Describe how you made money or created benefit for your previous companies and volunteer organizations.Tell how you saved money or increased efficiency in your positions.

3) Have a clean look to your resume.

Make sure you have lots of white space and space between lines.Use a simple format; do not try to be an artist (unless the position requires design skills).Combine similar work experience to shorten the length.Short and to the point is always better than long and wordy.

4) Have professional addresses.

Use your professional email with a world server.Use a P.O. box or Apt. mailing address (Parent's home is OK), NOT your university dorm room.

5) Get Help.

This is a valuable document, so get help from friends or hire someone to write your resume.Have your resume professionally critiqued and edited.Do NOT submit your resume or application until you feel confident in the grammar and quality.

6) Apply early.

DO NOT wait until the day before the application deadline. The early bird gets the worm, so try to apply in the first few days of the application period. Many employers will stop accepting application when they have a minimum number of decent applications.

These tips will help you create a polished resume and application. Remember, the application and resume are the first impression, but don't stop practicing. Try to do mock interviews and sharpen your resume. Always improve the product (you) by adding skills, getting certifications and gaining fluency.

Before You Fill Out an Online Job Application - Read This First!

When you're filling out paper job applications, the rules are pretty obvious - fill in all the blanks, don't lie, keep it neat and have everything spelled correctly.

But online applications are a whole different ball game. Sure, they have the standard questions about contact information, etc., but these applications have additional questions and usually a "personality test" that can take up to an hour to complete!

Here are the basic guidelines for completing an online application:

1. Before you start, make sure you are prepared with all the information you need (including names and phone numbers of previous employers). On some applications, taking too long will disqualify you before anyone even sees your application (like if you have to hunt for a name of a supervisor or a phone number). However, it is usually okay to save your application and come back to it if you really need to. I've never seen an online application that didn't have this option. Also, make sure you have a good internet connection and your environment is free of distractions.

2. Do not skip any questions (unless the question says something like, "For Maryland residents only", and you live in Rhode Island... ) and don't lie.

3. If you have a criminal history, be upfront about it. You are required by law to report it unless you are a resident of Massachusetts or Hawaii. However, read the question carefully - what are they asking? "Have you ever been convicted of a crime" is a very different question from "Have you been convicted of a felony within the past 7 years". Even if you've been convicted of a crime, you may be able to answer "No" depending on what the question asks for.

4. Several online apps ask for previous addresses and how long you lived there. I'm not sure what the reason for this is - I can only guess it's to see if you're someone who moves from state to state every six months. Be prepared with that information and if you have moved a lot, consider listing your parents' home as your previous address.

5. On the personality test, try not to over-think it. Your answers will end up looking scattered and disorganized. (This is hard, I know! I "failed" the personality test for a job I was eventually offered, for this reason.)

6. Employers want to see extreme honesty - so it's okay to be honest about your limitations. They are, however, looking for people who have a positive outlook and can have good relationships with coworkers (hint, hint).

7. If the test has options like, "sometimes," "always," and "never," don't select the middle-of-the-road option too often. It may come off as you not paying attention, and your application may be tossed. Move steadily through the questions. Read each one carefully but don't idle. Taking too long or changing too many answers may make it look like someone was helping you.

Women Under Represented in Engineering Jobs

Our annual survey of those using online job boards to find work in the engineering sector is a good snapshot of what's changing in the sector and what's not.

And sadly one thing that's remained fairly static over the years is the number of women who respond. With the percentage this year standing at 10 per cent, it's obvious engineering is still a very male-dominated profession.

Old diehards in the industry might not see this as a potential problem - 'that's just the way things are in engineering' - but by not doing more to encourage women into the profession, aren't we missing a trick that will mean when the economy gets going again and new technologies start to come on stream, there will be a skills gap to fill?

It's not as if girls aren't academically good enough in the subjects needed - in fact, they're generally outperforming the boys in what are usually seen as 'masculine' subjects like maths and science.
The truth is they just don't want to.

Potential reasons abound to explain boys' greater affinity with engineering - a misspent youth fiddling with Meccano, building go-carts out of prams, or cannibalising old bikes - but in reality it's probably girls' self-exclusion from a subject they perceive as nerdy and 'non-caring' that does the damage.

Instead, girls tend to head for careers and professions where they feel they can make a difference at a personal level, connect with individuals and provide help where it's needed. The harder-edged business of engineering seems far removed from their people-focused world.

Given this, if we want to encourage women into engineering, perhaps we should approach things from a slightly different angle, by presenting engineering with a human face - emphasising the ability of engineering to benefit not just one or ten or even a hundred people, but quite literally millions of people.

After all, many engineering projects have the capacity to do that, to change continents by building irrigation schemes that bring fertility to previously barren areas, developing sanitation programmes that banish disease from slum areas, creating green technologies that help protect vital habitats, or designing new renewable energy systems.

In other words, isn't it about time we thought - to use 'marketing speak' - not just about presenting the 'features' of engineering, but about extolling its 'benefits' as a powerful force for good to be navigated through an ever-changing world? This would help create a more people-focused 'face' for the profession that would have far greater appeal to women.

When there seems to be a general agreement that the economy needs rebalancing by moving away from dependence on financial services, this could be an ideal time to reinvent engineering.

And when you look around the world, with women already making up 18 per cent of Spain's engineers, 20 per cent of Italy's and 26 per cent of Sweden's, this isn't something that can't be done, but we've obviously some catching up to do.

Finding the Right Job Site That Suits You

The keyword 'job site' in Google will fetch more than ten million results within a fraction of second. No need to say that it is more than hard to find which one of these sites is the best among them. But by following some simple tips, we can easily get placed in our favorite job. You may think that it would be much easier if I could just browse through the openings available in our locality. But using a location filter is not applicable for all types of jobs and with the technology in today's world there is no need to find a job within our own city. Internet has become so ingrained into our lives that times are fast approaching where we will not be able to do anything without its help.

Most of the jobs which are offered in the present market are performed on the virtual platform. Even if we go to the office, we will be working on computers which can also be accessed from our homes. Therefore it is better to look for online jobs from all parts of the world. Or if you are looking for some interactive professional jobs then you will have to browse through the right website for getting hold of the right job. Job sites provide a lot of convenience to the applicants and the employers. But with the expansions of the job listing, it has become hard to find the right jobs within a site.

There are two types of job sites; one is a mass site which lists A - Z jobs which are available all around the world, the other one is a niche website were we can browse the vacancies for specific jobs. If you are a professional who is looking for a job in the medical field, it is better to go for a website which lists job vacancies which are specifically for jobs in the medical field. Such sites make it easy for you to search a keyword and get a list relevant to your field. A niche website will be having all sorts of opening in that field of career which may not be listed in mass job sites.

Therefore don't waste your time by browsing a website with the largest databases on jobs which you are not interested on, but look for sites which are specific to your field of choice. The second thing to look for is the popularity and reliability of the site. There are many people who use their job site for other purposes than really serving the people. Third tip is to join a job site which comes with additional features like posting your resume for employer reference. They will be more helpful in getting you the right job.

How Micro Job Sites Are Changing the Freelance, Outsource and Job Market

The Internet has drastically changed the job market in almost every way over the last fifteen years. Gone are the days of searching through the newspaper help wanted ads to find employment.

First there were large job sites like Monster, then there was Craigslist nearly replacing the newspaper classified ads allowing for faster interaction between job seeker and employer.

The Next Wave

Next there was a wave of outsourcing and freelance websites like E-lance and Guru that allow both freelancers and consulting firms to post their profile and respond to specific tasks.

The problem with those sites is that they are more geared to large projects and while they do a good job in general the barrier to entry may stifle many opportunities and dissuade a number of job seekers and employers from completing the approval process.

The Launch of Micro Job Sites

These sites are much more accessible than other job sites with a much quicker and easier process for posting profiles and tasks. These sites make it much quicker and easier for both an employer looking for a task to request a specific task and for job seekers to post various tasks they can complete.

These sites are a cross between an outsourcing site, classified site, and an e-commerce site all in one. Site members can post specific tasks without an extensive registration process and interact quickly and easily with potential employers to discuss the project.

In addition to the simple post there are opportunities to include additional tasks with the initial purchase after a secure discussion about the job is handled on the site.

The first mainstream micro job site was Fiverr however since then a number other sites have been launched. These sites are shifting the way jobs are marketed and making it much easier for both employers and internet marketers to fulfill needed roles without hiring a full time employee or without engaging a high priced consulting firm.

I recently spoke with a veteran freelance web designer who had this to say about micro job site. "Micro Job Sites have changed our business model tremendously over the last year. We previously promoted heavily on the large Outsourcing websites spending hours completing quotes for jobs with a very low success rate. With Micro Job sites we have been able to list 10-15 services we can provide to clients at affordable price points and it has lead to a major increase in our sales."

In conclusion, micro job sites are changing the way people do business on the internet and appear here to stay.
